Presentation of study into the EU regulations on animal/ large herbivore transport, re-introductions and release
At an expert symposium at Utrecht University NL / Law Faculty, Willemijn Oudenaarden (LHF judicial advisor) presented the outcome of her - LHF commissioned- study into the EU regulations on animal/ large herbivore transport, re-introductions and release. According to the studies, the EU veterinary and nature regulations, do not comply; regulations for ‘wild’ (or de-domesticated) herbivores often do not exist; regulations for domestic herbivores are prevailing and contrary to the needs for wild herbivores. The study has started a discussion amongst law experts, to see how nature issues on large herbivores/ re-introduction, transport, etc. can be covered and improved in regulations. A summary of the studies will be published in European law expert journals. (See also LHF e-Browser spring 2008)
