About


Professor M. Krasińska is the leading specialist in ecology, population biology, and management of the European bison.

She has conducted several research projects on various aspects of morphology, conservation biology, life habits, and space use of the free-living bison populations in Poland and the Belarus Republic.

She had performed the long-term programme testing the biological and economical feasibility of hybridisation between European bison and cattle.

Currently, M. Krasińska is conducting radio-tracking studies focused on social structure and reproductive biology of European bison in Białowieża Primeval Forest.

She is the author or co-author of 4 books or book chapters, 90 scientific papers and articles, and supervisor of a PhD student from Poland. She tutored a diploma work and supervised a Master Thesis of three foreign students (from Germany and England).

Awards and prizes:

  • 1989 - Award of the Scientific Secretary of the Polish Academy of Sciences (awarded was the book "Hybrids of European bison and cattle")
  • 1983 - Award of the Chancellor of the Warsaw Agricultural University for the achievements in research on European bison
