How LHNet works

The Large Herbivore Network or 'LHNet' is an independent (practically-oriented, knowledge) network organization under the umbrella of ECNC-European Centre for Nature Conservation. We work within ECNC’s Core Programme Area 'Ecosystem and Species Management'. Rob Wolters is Executive Director of ECNC, and Ben Delbaere is coordinator of LHNet. ECNC is the headquarters of LHNet.

Partners

LHNet works closely together with IUCN (Species Specialist Groups, Red List of Threatened species). LHNet is involved in international conventions, like the Bern and Bonn Conventions, CITES, etc.

Connecting people for future generations

LHNet brings together experts and interested parties, as well as non-governmental and governmental organizations (NGOs and GOs), etc., of many nationalities and from a wide range of disciplines. This facilitates opportunities for people and organizations to support large herbivore conservation and ecological restoration projects.

History of LHNet

  • Start of the Large Herbivore Initiative (LHI) in 1998 in close cooperation with WWF/WNF
  • In 2002 LHI became the Large Herbivore Foundation (LHF)
  • On 1 July 2010 LHF joined ECNC as part of the Ecosystem and Species Management Programme Area and became the Large Herbivore Network (LHNet)
