An interesting article on feeding or not feeding European bison in the primeval forest of Bialowieza was written in the Guardian by Damian Carrington.

We know that during the past centuries, bison were taken well care of and artificially fed to keep up their numbers in the primeval forest of Bialowieza. In this way, the Polish kings and latterly Russian csars could go for successful hunting is their royal forests. shortly after the first World War (1927) the bison went extinct in the wild and a new population was established from six founders, and only two bulls, meaning a meagre genetic inheritance.

Now there is an ongoing debate on whether this animal should be feed or not, some people say it is necessary to increase bison survival and increase their reproduction. If you want to read the whole article and more about this topic go to Europe's last bison pose a question: what is truly natural?
